FACE OF THE DAY

On a daily basis I keep my makeup quite simple despite my extreme love for a smokey eye and a good contour/highlight combination. Instead, on days where I mostly stay in the house working on my practicum project and watching movies I gravitate towards matte neutrals. Here are some of the products I used on my face today.

First and foremost, I start with a primer and the NYX Pore Filler has always been a trusty choice for me. I've delved into several other primers but haven't come across anything that blurs my pores and smooths my skin as good as this stuff. Not to mention it doesn't take a chunk out of my wallet and lasts a decently long time.

I battled in the foundation department for several years but I think i've found something that i'll be sticking with for a long time. My skin has tendencies to be dry but if for any reason I am too hot I instantly turn oily. I don't know what that means... is that combination? Someone please fill me in. On top of that I prefer a fuller coverage foundation as I battled with acne for most of my high school days. Though I've conquered those horrid times, Thank God, I still tend to lean towards something that I know will cover up anything if called upon. The Revlon Colorstay Foundation has been a repeat award winner in the beauty world, but something I never joined the band wagon on until about six months ago. Well, it's here to stay. This foundation doesn't cling to dry patches, lasts a full day, and doesn't oxidize on my skin. Praise the Lord! But that's enough chit chat about foundation for today. Let's move on...

Up next I tackle the dark circles that are bound to appear after a late night of Netflix watching and pretending to make progress on my Master's practicum. The creamy texture and blendability of Maybelline's Instant Age Rewind Concealer is a dream come true. Though i've tried the light shade in this range I definitely prefer the brightening shade as it seems to perk up my face a bit after such little sleep.

Although I don't have any complaints about Rimmel's Stay Matte Pressed Powder, I also don't have any amazing reviews to send your way. I'm still on the hunt for a face powder that I can really say is amazing. This, however, is the one powder that I don't feel I have to touch-up throughout the day and keeps oil at bay. So there's a plus.

The same story goes for blush. While Mac's Melba Powder Blush is a beautiful colour, I truly believe there's got to be something better out there. It's neither bad nor good.

I use three shades of Sonia Kashuk's Eye On Neutral Matte Palette for a simple day like the one i've described. I sweep the shade closest to my skin tone across the lid. In the crease I go a few shades darker than my skin tone and finish it off with the lightest shade along my brow bone. Simple as that. These all matte shadows are incredibly pigmented and blendable, not to mention cheaper than something like the Urban Decay Naked Basics 1 or 2.

I suppose if I was asked what my signature look is it would be a black liquid liner cat eye. While i've tried my fair share of liners I prefer The Balm's Schwing liquid liner. It is incredibly easy to use, dries to a nice matte black finish, and doesn't budge until I go at it with my makeup remover at night. It's a pricier option but I have always been able to get mine on sale. Yay!

This little baby is almost done-for, but I already know I will be repurchasing Gosh Darling Lashes Mascara. I prefer a drier formula for Mascara the offers more volume as opposed to length and this is perfect. Not to mention the brush is super cool. One side has long bristles to lengthen and volumize my top lashes while the other side has very short bristles, perfect for those tiny bottom lashes. This brand definitely needs more credit.

On a relaxed, carefree day I don't worry about my brows too much. Benefit's Gimme Brow offers just enough colour and fullness to my brows without looking too severe. I think the next time I purchase this product I'll try the darker shade as the Light/Medium shade could be slightly too light for me. Of course, my overall look at his point is quite matte and natural so I wouldn't want to look crazy with overdrawn brows.

Let's be honest, if i'm staying home all day I'll likely just grab a lip balm to moisturize my lips a little. Usually I'm drinking several cups of tea and I hate getting lipstick on my mugs. Is anyone else the same way? But once in a while I find that lipstick just makes me feel a little more confident and a little more put together. I love Topshop's lipstick formula and can't get enough of the shade Mink. It's slightly darker than my naturally rosy lips and definitely on that Kylie Jenner lip trend at the moment. Unfortunately, i'm not sure if this particular colour is still available as I can't find it online.

And that's it. Let me know what you've thought of some of these products if you've tried them before. What are some products that always make it into your daily beauty routine?
